Stand Up Tabs

(ver. 2)
Steel Dragon
(Complete)
Hey this is a song from the movie Rock Star. This a fairly easy song
an explanation of the pinched harmonic.

Tuning: Dropped D
Low to high: DADGBe

Key:

W = Wah
h = Hammer On
P = Pull Off
() = Tapped note (with picking hand)
/ = Slide up or down
* = Pinched Harmonic
X = Dead Note

Intro is just bass and bass drum until this part:

e--------------
b--------------
g--------------
d--4w-3w-2w--0-
a--xw-xw-xw--0-
d--4w-3w-2w--0-

e---------------
b---------------
g--44-44-44-----
d--44-44-44-----      x3
a--22-22-22-----
d---------------

e-------------------------
b-------------------------
g--44-44-44---------------
d--44-44-44-4w-3w-2w-0----
a--22-22-22-xw-xw-xw-0----
d-----------4w-3w-2w-0----

It goes into the chorus to start

e----------------------------------------------------
b----------------------------------------------------
g--44-44-44--4---------------------44-44-44-4--------
d--44-44-44--4---------------------44-44-44-4--------
a--22-22-22--2---------------------22-22-22-2--------
d--------------------0-23p2-0-----------------0-23-

e--------------------------------------------
b--------------------------------------------
g--44-44-44-4---------------44-44-44---------
d--44-44-44-4---------------44-44-44-4-3-2-0-
a--22-22-22-2---------------22-22-22-x-x-x-0-
d-----------------0-23p2-0----------4-3-2-0-

Verses:

The verses are very strangely played. Wylde throws in a few pinched
harmonics out of nowhere. Listen to the recording to get the timing.

e------------------------------------------------------------
b------------------------------------------------------------
g--2-4----------243--4------------2-4-------2-43-4---------
d--2-4----------243--4------------2-4-----2-2-43-4---------   x2
a--0-2----------021--2------------0-2-----2-0-21-2---------
d------------------------0-23p2-0---------2----------0-23--

Back to chorus

"Stand up and shout"

Then back to verse.

This is the riff that is played before and during the solo:

d--------                      d--4*--
a--------       x12            a------
d--7h9-9-                      d------

Solo:

Ok, so this solo is really nuts. Wylde uses alot of tapping and weird
sh*t. This guy is a friggin God, so don't be discouraged if you
have difficulty with this.

e--(12)10(12)10(12)10-(10)9(10)9(10)9-(9)7(9)7(9)7--------------------------------------------
b---------------------------------------------------(10)7(10)7(10)7-(8)7(8)7(8)7-(7)6(7)6(7)6-
g---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

b-----------------------------------------------
g--(9)7(9)7(9)7-(7)6(7)6(7)6-(6)4(6)4--2WWWW----
d-----------------------------------------------

All that repeats twice. Then:

g--11b13-------         g-------------

This part is played really fast.

e--(12)9(12)9(12)9---------------------------------------------------------

g-----------------------------------------(11)9(11)9(11)9(11)9------11b14--

This part is actually picked, and is very difficult

a--22-22-22-----
d---------------

e-------------------------

d--44-44-44-4w-3w-2w-0----
a--22-22-22-xw-xw-xw-0----
d-----------4w-3w-2w-0----

Back to chorus then its done. That's all for a sweet song. It's rather
difficult to comprehend unless you understand the epiphany of a Zakk
Wylde riff. The pinched harmonic.

So what is a pinched harmonic? Well, it's a sound made on a string
that creates a loud squealing type sound.
How do you do it? Do perform a pinched harmonic, takes a little practice.
The trick is to hold your pick very high , almost at the point
and hold down a note, 4th fret G string for example. Hit the note
with your pick, then flick your thumb into the string immediately after
the result should be a pinched harmonic.
It takes some practice, and eventually you'll be able to throw them in
out of nowhere just like Wylde!

Enjoy the tab! Check out the Rock Star movie, it's excellent!
We All Die Young in it's entirety will be up soon!!!
