EVERYBODY'S WAITING (FOR SOMEONE TO COME HOME)
(by Amy Ray)
----------------------------------------------
[each chord is about half a measure; D11=554030]

INTRO:

[This is the exact pattern for the first four measures; it varies some
through the song. Sometimes there's a quick hammer-on from 0 to 2 on
the A string right before a low E at the beginning of Em measures.]

Em Em C D11 Em Em C D11
Through the wind and the rain I hear my mother's cry
    Em Em C D11 Em Em C D11
She says, I know my baby's out there, I just couldn't bear to ask her why
Em Em C D11 Em Em C D11
From my womb into the world, lord, I wish the child would call
Em Em C D11 Em Em C D11
You know I'm needing some company, she makes my life so full
D11 D11 C C D11 D11 C C
Take my advice, go ahead and live your own life
D11 D11 D11 [tacet] Em Em C D11
Everybody's waiting for someone to come home

Like the pharaoh waits for the sand
This world is burning with the tension of human hands
Waiting to be cleansed, waiting for their ace of spades
They say, I sure hope he's coming 'cause I feel like I've just been saved
Take my advice, go ahead and live while you're alive
And everybody's waiting for someone to come home

[guitar solo: Em Em C(9) D11 ]

Em Em C C D11 D11 D11 D11 Em
Come to me and cleanse my soul (I'm free, I'm free)
Em C C D11 D11 D11 D11 Em
Only with you am I whole (Can't you see that I am me)
Em C C D11 D11 D11 D11 Em Em C D11
I'll be waiting by the window (I'll be heading for the door)

I was driving down Highway 85, yeah
Had to pull off the road just to hear my radio coming in clearer
Lord, this life's so full [???], I said, why do we ask for more?
Why we waitin' for the man to come, we forgot what he's comin' for
Won't you take my advice, go ahead and live while you're alive
And everybody's waiting for someone to come home

Em Em C D11 Em Em C D11 [etc...]
(I'll be waiting by the window)
And everybody's waiting for someone to come home
(I'll be waiting by the window)
Everybody's waiting for someone to come home
    Em Em C D11 Em
Come home

[I'm never exactly sure if I have the right frets for the notes when I
figure out a guitar solo. So, as usual, the _notes_ are right, but Emily
might play the notes on different strings than I've written down.]

/ and \ are slides up and down.
T=10; E=11; W=12; F=14.
E~~~~ means bend up a half step (from F# to G), then back down to F#.
The notes in parentheses (7,8,9) are softer.
"45" and "EW" are quick hammer-ons; "EWE" is a quick hammer-on followed
   by a quick pull-off.
