I Thought You Were God Chords

(ver. 2)
Clare Bowditch And The Feeding Set
Clare Bowditch and the Feeding Set
I Thought You Were God

I just worked this tab out by listening to the song and I’m not 100% sure it’s all
spot on, but it’s pretty close. I’ve just put the chords down but you can just finger pick
– (in the verse it alternates mostly on the b and d strings)

It can be played on the 1st fret – A, D, E and F sharp minor
But it’s easier to play on the 3rd fret – G, C, D and Em
Listen to the song to get the exact timing
Have fun!!

Verse 1
G C
Storeman, your eyes all watery white.
	D
"Another long long night?" and you say
	 G C D
"Be careful riding that boy's bike in the dark."
		              Em
"Don't worry, I'm not going far."

Chorus
        C D Em
I was very very young and terribly in love
    C D Em C
and not yet knowing that love alone may not be enough
  D Em C
to undo all the silly things I thought.
D G
I thought you were God.

Verse 2
The night sky is peeling back her sheets.
The linen is lavender and underneath it I ride your bike.
The bike bar's cutting into my crotch.
I stand up and power-pedal on.

Chorus
I was very very young and terribly in love,
not yet knowing that love alone may not be enough
to counter all the stupid things I thought.
I thought you were God.
I believed in you.

Verse 3
We still talk, we still talk a lot since the alarming discovery
that you were never God and we still love,
but the laughter's more sincere,
'cause it's speckled with your tears.

Chorus
You were so young and terribly in love,
not yet knowing that love alone may not be enough
to undo all the secret things I thought.

I thought you were God.
