My New Dress Up Shoes Chords

(ver. 1)
The Smith Street Band
Hey guys,

Another SSB one here, an oldie requested by /u/annieisgreat. I hadn't actually heard
this one so thanks for the recommendation! Just a few notes on this one:

Tuning: Standard

Intro: Wil does a picking variation of the chords listed, as long as your hand is
playing the right chord it'll sound good no matter which strings you hit.

DaddG: Every time he plays DaddG he does this little diddly. Strum down on the chord
and up on the single notes, very simple.

e|---3-2--2-0--0-2--2----------------------------------|
B|---3----3----3----3----------------------------------|
G|---2----2----2----2----------------------------------|
D|--^0---^0---^0---^0----------------------------------|
A|-----------------------------------------------------|
E|-----------------------------------------------------|

Chorus: When switching between the F#/G and the Em7 he does this:

e|--3--------3------------------------|
B|--3--------3------------------------|
G|--0--------0------------------------|
D|--0--------2------------------------|
A|--x--------2------------------------|
E|--2--3--2--0------------------------|

The Smith Street Band

Intro:
G Cadd9 Em7 DaddG
G Em7 Cadd9 DaddG

Verse 1

G Cadd9 Em7
You told me in the beer garden that I had changed your life, I laughed at my

                         DaddG
new dress up shoes and thought, "He's a lucky guy"

G Em7 Cadd9
It wasn't as hard as I thought that it would be to see your arms around his

             DaddG
boney, boney body,

G Cadd9 Em7
And in your mother's hatchback with the windows rolled down, my dear, you

              DaddG
were a f**king joy to be around,

G Em7 Cadd9
     DaddG
But if I'm gonna make anything of myself, I don't wanna do it alone,

G Em7 Cadd9
Sitting behind a grey desk, staring at a whitewashed wall, tasting last

                  DaddG
night's amyl every time I talk,

G Cadd9
And my brain cracks, my head slips back, my hearts skips beats for a minute

Em7 DaddG
and you're softly, softly telling me to just breathe in,

         G
Breathe in, breathe out

       Cadd9
Breathe in, breathe out

       Em7
Breathe in, breathe out

       DaddG
Breathe in, breathe out

Chorus
   G F#/G Em7
 Cadd9
If this isn't a body for true love, then I'll slowly cut it down,

   G F#/G Em7
To spend a week with a clear head and a free chest is becoming an impossible

      Cadd9
dream now,

              G F#/G
And I've been dancing past your skinny bodies at the door of a million parties,

                  Em7 Cadd9
And I burst out shivering under the night sky and Im wishing that I was warm in

           G
bed with you,

G F#/G
Wish I was warm with you, I wish I was allowed with you,

    Em7 Cadd9
And if we go away then we just come back

Verse 2

Last winter everything was just so perfect, making castles in your bungalow and holding
you from your parents,

G Cadd9 Em7
And no matter how it ended, I'm so glad it happened, you are an amazing

       DaddG
person and you'll do amazing things,

G Cadd9
If we go away, then we'll just come back (You'll do amazing things)

Em7 DaddG
If we go away, then we'll just come back (But I won't come back)

   G F#/G Em7
  Cadd9
If this isn't a body for true love, then I'll slowly cut it down,

   G F#/G
To spend a week with a clear head and a free chest is becoming an

Em7 Cadd9
impossible dream now,

G F#/G
Dancing past your skinny body at the door of the party,

                  Em7 Cadd9
And I burst out shivering under the night sky and Im wishing I was warm in

           G F#/G
bed with you, wish that I was warm with you, I wish I was allowed with you

    Em7 Cadd9
And if we go away then we just come back
Then we'll just come back, then we'll just come back
Then we'll just come back, then we'll just come back (G)
