Sprout And The Bean Tabs

(ver. 1)
Joanna Newsom
e---C#
B---G#
G---E
D---B
A---G#
E---C#

If your guitar won't do drop tunings like this one very well, you can just stay in
and tune up your A string to be a B.

A tuning that also works is D standard but the A string stays the same.

I'm a classical guitarist that likes to play pop music so...this is a really hard tab.

the basics of the verse:

-9------9--------10--------9----9------|
---7--7---7--7------10---7----7----7---|
---9--9---9--9---------9------9----9---|
---7--7---7--7-------------7-----------|
--------0------0-----------------------|
-10----------------------0-------------|

A variation on rhythm that's thrown around a lot:

----9---9-----9---9----|
------7---7-----7---7--|
------9---9-----9---9--|
------7---7-----7---7--|
------------0----------|
-10--------------------|

this next part is a good transition back to the beginning of the verse lick:

ie: and I..

raved
---10-10--9-9--7-7--2-2--|
--------------------0-0--|
---7--7---6-6--4-4--2-2--|
---7--7---7-7--5-5-------|
-0------------------0----|
-------------------------|

the basics of the pre chorus and chorus: .

here's where i get sorta nuts...the interlude into the next chorus

{x} indicate left hand harmonics
x[x] indicate left hand fret, [right hand harmonics]

ie: 4[16] is fretted at the 4th, and plucked at the 16th with the right. open right hand
have no beginning number.

Basically just play the chord and then the harmonic part.

If i were to call these 6 different measures you would play them in this order: measure
measure 3, 2, 4, 1, 5, 2, 6

Should we go out side...
Emajor7 C# major7
-2------|-0-----|-{7}-----------|-4[16]-[12]-------|-2[14]-----------|-[12]------------|
---3-3--|---0-0-|-----{7}-------|-----------[12]---|----3[15]--------|-----[12]--------|
---4-4--|---1-1-|--------{7}----|------------------|----------4[16]--|---------1[13]---|
--------|---2-2-|---------------|------------------|-----------------|-----------------|
---3-3--|-------|----3--3---3-3-|------0--0----0-0-|----3--3-----3-3-|---0---0-----0-0-|
-3------|-0-----|--3------3-----|-0----------0-----|-3--------3------|-0---------0-----|

You can ask the counselor...
E major C#major
-------3-----------3-----------0----------0-----|
-----4---4-------4---4-------0---0------0---0---|
---5-------5---5-------5---1------1---1-------1-|
------------------------------------------------|
-------3-----------3-----------0----------0-----|
-3-----------3-----------0----------0-----------|

Interlude:

-------------|---------------|---------------|----------|-------|
-[12]--------|---------------|---------------|----------|-------|
-------------|-[12]----------|---------------|----------|-------|
---------[7]-|--------2[12]--|-4[16]-----[12]|----------|-------|
------3---3--|------3-3------|-------0----0--|-[12]~~~--|-------|
--3----------|--3------------|--0------------|--0--7--7-|-0-7-7-|

this part is very difficult. left hand bar the 5th with pinky, right hand index on 17, m
a are plucking.

notice the second half change to left hand harmonics.

-5[17]-2[12]----|-5[17]-2[12]----|-{12}---------|-{12}---------|------|
-5[17]-2[12]----|-5[17]-2[12]----|-{12}--{7}----|-{12}--{7}----|------|
----------------|----------------|-------{7}----|-------{7}----|------|
----------------|----------------|--------------|--------------|------|
-----3----------|-----3----------|-----0----0---|-----0----0---|--0-0-|
-3----------3---|-3----------3---|-0------------|-0------------|-0----|

play the verse, prechorus, and chorus all over and then end with:

outro:

|---------------------------10-----------10----------------10-------------9-----|
|---------12-------------12-----------12----12----------12----12-------12---12--|
|-------9----9---------9-----------13----------10----13----------13--9--------9-|
|----12--------12---12----------12-------12-------11-------11------9------9-----|
|--9------9-------9-------------------------------------------------------------|
|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

|------------------------16--------------------------11----------------------------7-|
|--------12------------9--------------9------------9----9----9-------5-----------5---|
|------9----9--------9-------------11---11------11--------11-------7---7-------7-----|
|---12--------12---9-------------9-----------12------------------5-------5---5-------|
|-9--------------9------------------------12-------------------------------5---------|
|----------------------------[12]------------------------------5---------------------|

|----------10----------------10-------------9-----|------------------------16-|
|-------12----12----------12----12-------12---12--|--------12------------9----|
|----13----------10----13----------13--9--------9-|------9----9--------9------|
|-12-------12-------11-------11------9------9-----|---12--------12---9--------|
|-------------------------------------------------|-9--------------9----------|
|-------------------------------------------------|---------------------------|

Some of these chords seem insane, well...they are. like the beginning chord up to the 10
all played as one chord. And on the 9 9 9 9 16...I sustain the 9's and really stretch
hit 16.

have fun!
