Grey Room Chords

(ver. 2)
Damien Rice
“Grey Room” by Damien Rice off the Album “9”

No capo, standard tuning.

Chords:

C/G: 332010
F: 133211
Em: 022000
G: 355433

Notes on strumming:

There are lots of hammer-ons and pull-offs in this song. In general:

When he plays the C/G chord, he does the hammer-ons and pull-offs with the open D string
the E note on the second fret.

When he plays the F chord, he does the hammer-ons and pull-offs with the open G string
the A note on the second fret.

During the verse, right before you change from the F chord back to the C/G, he does a
pull-off with the F chord like it's described above.

If you want to keep the F bass note on that F chord, you could play it with your thumb
I like to do to keep a nice, full sound [plus it's cool to play with your thumb
 So it goes like this:

C/G chord hammer-on:

E|--0-0-----|
B|--1-1-----|
G|--0-0-----|
D|--0h2-----|
A|--3-3-----|
E|--3-3-----|

C/G chord pull-off:

E|--0-0-----|
B|--1-1-----|
G|--0-0-----|
D|--2p0-----|
A|--3-3-----|
E|--3-3-----|

F chord hammer-on:

E|--1-1-----|
B|--1-1-----|
G|--0h2-----|
D|--3-3-----|
A|--3-3-----|
E|--1-1-----|

F chord pull-off:

E|--1-1-----|
B|--1-1-----|
G|--2p0-----|
D|--3-3-----|
A|--3-3-----|
E|--1-1-----|

I tried to get the chord placements right with the lyrics, but they might be off a bit,
you know how it goes...

Intro: C/G F

	    C/G F
Well I've been here before, I've sat on the floor, in a grey grey room,
	  C/G F
Where I stay in all day, I don't eat, but I play, with this grey grey food,
C/G F
Desole, If someone is prayin', then I might break out,
C/G F
Desole, Even if I scream, I can't scream that loud,
Em F Em F Em F
I'm all alone again, crawling back home again, just stuck by the phone again

[Right around 1:28 he sneaks in a G note on the third fret, first string]

                C/G F
Yeah, well I've been here before, sat on a floor, in a grey grey mood,
        G/C F
Where I stay up all night, And all that I write, is a grey grey tune,
   C/G F
So pray for me child, Just for a while, And I might break out yeah,
C/G F
Pray for me child, even a smile, would do for now,
[Crank up the speakers because Lisa kicks in here – go Lisa!]
Em F Em F Em F
So I'm all alone again, crawling back home again, just stuck by the phone again

		     G F
Have I still got you to be my open door,
		     G F
Have I still got you to be my sandy shore,
		     G F
Have I still got you to cross my bridge in this storm,
		     G F
Have I still got you to keep me warm,

		     C/G F
Coz if I squeeze my grape, And I drink my wine yeah,
		     C/G F
Coz if I squeeze my grape, And I drink my wine yeah,
		 C/G
Yeah, Oh coz nothing is lost, This is frozen in frost,
	   F
And it's opening time, And there's no-one in line,

			 G F
But I've still got me to be your open door,
		   G F
I've still got me to be your sandy shore,
		   G F
I've still got me to cross your bridge in this storm,
                   G F
And I've still got me to keep you warm,

            C/G F
Warmer than warm yeah, Warmer than warm yeah,
	      C/G F
Warmer than warm yeah, Warmer than warm yeah
