Magnificent Tabs

(ver. 1)
U2
Composed by U2, lyrics by Bono and The Edge

Notes:
Here’s the song “Magnificent” off the new album No Line on
the Horizon, this is the song where “The Edge has made his
comeback.” This song is truly another epic Edge guitar song,
with his trademark delay. Have fun with this one!

And this may the first tab out there of this song,
if you’re going to steal it, at least give me credit,
or link back to this tab.

Now The Edge uses so many different guitar sounds in this
song, if you wanted to get technical I’d label like all 5
guitar parts separately in the studio. But I’ll keep it down
to like 2.

HAVE FUN!

Guitar 1 – Lead Guitar, slight distortion with a 390~ms delay
On Verse fills, its about a 250~ms delay
Guitar 2 – Rhythm Guitar, slight distortion, pretty quiet most of the time
Guitar 3 – Slide Guitar, the solo.

INTRO
The song starts out on what I think is a synth, even
though it could be (and they’ll probably do it live)
with a distorted bass from Adam.

Synth/Bass/(do it on guitar if you have an octaver effect!)

*make sure you pay attention to not let every not ring, or
it gets too muddy. I’ve put a dot under all of the slightly
palm muted notes, PM them just enough to let them not ring out.

CHORUS 1 – Same as the part in the intro, Rhythm guitar
continues strumming, same chord progression in the chorus

VERSE 2 – same as Verse 1

CHORUS 2 – Same as Chorus 1, except chord progression is
played through one extra time, and then a different ending:
instead of going to the Bm at the end, go up to D, as shown.
I will show the end of the chorus riff so you know how it goes

Guitar 1

A|-5--5--5--5--5--5--5--5--4--4--4--4--4--4--4--4----------|

e|-------------------------2--------------------------------|
B|(6--6--6--6--6--6--6--6)-2--------------------------------|
G|-6--6--6--6--6--6--6--6--3--------------------------------|
D|-6--6--6--6--6--6--6--6--4--------------------------------|
A|-4--4--4--4--4--4--4--4--4--------------------------------|
E|-------------------------2--------------------------------|

Guitar 2 – Rhythm Guitar
(3:45) fades in with the same riff from the intro
e|-0~--------------0~--------------------------------------|
B|-----2~------2~------2~------2~--------------------------|
G|---------4~--------------4~------------------------------|
D|---------------------------------------------------------|
A|---------------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------|
Repeat until the solo

Guitar 1 – Lead Guitar
(3:54) starts fading in to build up to the solo, it sounds
like the Edge is just doing sixteenth note rakes like he
is famous for doing, though if you want you can do the
 B octave again.

e|---------------------------------|
B|---------------------------------|
G|-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-|
D|-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-|
A|-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-|
E|---------------------------------|

GUITAR SOLO
Guitar 3 – Slide Guitar
Chords are strummed by Guitar 2
(4:02)
   F#m C#m A E
e|----------------------------------------------------|
B|-12/14~---12\10-10/14~--------12/14~----12/10-/14---|
G|-.--------.-----.-------------.---------.-----------|
D|----------------------------------------------------|
A|----------------------------------------------------|
E|----------------------------------------------------|

             B Bm
e|-------------------------------------|
B|-12~--\10--10/12\10--\7~-------------|
G|-.---------.-------------------------|play 2x, that’s the
D|-------------------------------------|whole solo!
A|-------------------------------------|
E|-------------------------------------|

Since slide solos can be complex to tab out on which notes
you slide to and which you pick and THEN slide to, I’ve put
a dot below every time you actually pick the string, if that
 makes sense.

CHORUS 3 – same as previous Choruses

OUTRO – Guitar 2 sounds like it’s doing the straight sixteenths
B octave again, while Guitar 1 is hopping between B and A in a
rhythm something like this – I’ve put the count above to help
me explain the timing I hear on that.

Guitar 1
(5:02)
   B A B A B A B B A B
   1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4
e|---------------|---------------|
B|---------------|---------------|
G|---------------|---------------|
D|-9-7---9--7--9-|-9-7---9--7--9-|
A|-x-x---x--x--x-|-x-x---x--x--x-|
E|-7-5---7--5--7-|-7-5---7--5--7-|

End on:
   F#m
e|----|
B|----|
G|----|
D|-4--|
A|-x--|
E|-2--|

THE END – I’m really open to suggestions, corrections if
you can find any, because as we all know, the Edge loves
to make things complicated and every U2 song is harder to
tab than you think. Sorry for such a “wordy” tab, but the
notes are the only way I know how to explain some things.
