The World Is Our Tabs

(ver. 1)
This Will Destroy You
Band: This Will Destroy You
Track 2: The World is Our ____

Tuning: EADGBE (Standard)

Hey guys! This is my first of hopefully many This Will Destroy You tabs. This song is
particularly difficult to play, but it can be tricky keeping up with the different layers
guitars - I have used a 'bracketing' system to split the song up. I havent indicated the
rings' because theres so many and theyre not at all difficult to figure out - pretty
every note is ringing!

Theres alot of speculation on the tuning that TWDY actually use, I would guess that they
a few different tunings but this song seems to fit nicely into standard, though
adjust it if you feel it is neccessary. I also dont own an ebow so the effects in the
for the first part of the song arent tabbed, though Ive indicated alternatives if you
them.

This is a great song to play through, I can really get into it - I hope you enjoy it too!

The Bracketed sections are as follows:

INTRO (0:00 - 1:00)

VERSE (1:00 - 2:37)

CHORUS (2:37 - 3:46)

INTERLUDE (3:53 - 5:33)

CHORUS 2 (5:33 - 7:12)

         LETS BEGIN!

|--------------------------------------------------------------------------|
|INTRO: (0:00 - 1:00)
|
|Guitar 2 - tremelo pick these two notes for the 'ebow' part in the |background:
|E|---9----13------|
|B|----------------|
|G|----------------|
|D|----------------|
|A|----------------|
|E|----------------|
|
|
|Guitar 1 (0:08) - You need to fine tune your delay here to get the full |effect and try
add some reverb if possible. Also, make sure that |whatever finger your using to play
6 on the G string never moves - it |is constantly ringing.
|E| -----------------------------------------|
|B|------------------------------------------|
|G|--6---------------------------------------|
|D|--------4-----3---------------------------| x2
|A|--------------------4---------4-----------|
|E|------------------------------------------|
|
|
| Then at (0:24) Guitar 1 plays this:
|E| -------------------------------------------------------------------------|
|B|--------------------------------------------------------------------------|
|G|--6-------------------------6-----------6---------------------------------|
|D|--------4-----3-------------------3----------3-3/4------------------------| x5
|A|--------------------4-----------------------------------------------------|
|E|--------------------------------------------------------------------------|
|----------------------------------------------------------------------------|

|--------------------------------------------------------------------------|
|'VERSE': (1:00-2:37)
|
|Guitar 2 (1:00) - Comes in on the last note that Guitar 1 (above) plays (I |think this
is actually played on bass but as theyre exactly the same |notes it doesnt really
though it will sound like some notes are |missing -those are just some open rings on the
that cant be |effectively recreated on the guitar).
|E| -------------------------------------------------------|
|B|--------------------------------------------------------|
|G|--------------------------------------------------------|
|D|--1/3------------6----4----1----------------------------|x12
|A|----------4---------------------------------------------|
|E|--------------------------------------------------------|
|
|Guitar 1 (1:14) - After playing Guitar 2's part through twice, Guitar 1 |returns with
same section as before...
|E| ------------------------------------------------------|
|B|-------------------------------------------------------|
|G|--6-------------------------6-----------6--------------|
|D|--------4-----3-------------------3----------3-3/4-----| x4
|A|--------------------4----------------------------------|
|E|-------------------------------------------------------|
|
|... then at (1:49) Guitar 1 plays the same thing an octave up:
|E| ------------------------------------------------------|
|B|----------------9---7----------------------------------|
|G|--8/10-----6------------8------------------------------|
|D|-------------------------------------------------------| x4
|A|-------------------------------------------------------|
|E|-------------------------------------------------------|
|
|... then at (2:20) Guitar 1 plays this:
|E|--9---------------------9--------9---------------------|
|B|------7----6----------------6--------6---6/7-----------|
|G|----------------6--------------------------------------|
|D|-------------------------------------------------------| x2
|A|-------------------------------------------------------|
|E|-------------------------------------------------------|
|
|--------------------------------------------------------------------------|

|--------------------------------------------------------------------------|
| 'CHORUS': (2:37-3:53)
|
| Guitar 1 (2:37): Same as before just with distortion.
|E|--9---------------------9--------9---------------------|
|B|------7----6----------------6--------6---6/7-----------|
|G|----------------6--------------------------------------|
|D|-------------------------------------------------------| x2
|A|-------------------------------------------------------|
|E|-------------------------------------------------------|
|
| Guitar 1 (2:53)
|E|--9-----------------------------------------------------|
|B|------7----6------------------9--7----------------9--7--|
|G|---------------8/10--8/10--6---------8--8/10---6--------|
|D|--------------------------------------------------------| x1
|A|--------------------------------------------------------|
|E|--------------------------------------------------------|
|
|
| Guitar 2 (2:39 - 3:12): Guitar 2 isnt playing what sounds like heavy |chords - thats
bass. With distortion, just tremolo pick this in time:
|E|-------------------------------------------------------|
|B|----6-------------------------------9------------------|
|G|----6------------------------------10------------------|
|D|-------------------------------------------------------| x 4
|A|-------------------------------------------------------|
|E|-------------------------------------------------------|
|
| Guitar 1 (3:12-3:46): Just bend this note up and down:
|E|----13----|
|B|----------|
|G|----------|
|D|----------| x8
|A|----------|
|E|----------|
|
| Guitar 2 (3:12-3:46): Tremelo pick this over Guitar 1:
|E|--------------------------------------------------------|
|B|------9------9------9/14/16/18--------------------------|
|G|--10-----10-----10--------------------------------------|
|D|--------------------------------------------------------| x1
|A|--------------------------------------------------------|
|E|--------------------------------------------------------|
|
|--------------------------------------------------------------------------|

|--------------------------------------------------------------------------|
|'INTERLUDE' (3:53-5:33)
|
| Guitar 1 (3:53-4:10): Clean with delay:
|E|-------------------------------------------------------|
|B|-------------------------------------------------------|
|G|-------------------------------------------------------|
|D|-----3-------6-----------------------------------------| x2
|A|--1-----1/4--------4-----3/4---------------------------|
|E|----------------2-----2--------------------------------|
|
| Guitar 2 (4:02-4:43): Clean with delay:
|
|E|---------------------| ----------------------------------|
|B|--------9------------| ------at the end of---------------|
|G|-----10-----6--5/6---| ------the fifth time-----8-8-8----|
|D|---------------------| x5 ------you play this---------------|
|A|---------------------| ----------(4:41)------------------|
|E|---------------------| ----------------------------------|
|
| Guitar 1 (4:10-4:27)
|E|---------------------------|
|B|---------------------------|
|G|---------------------------|
|D|--4--3--1------------------| x8
|A|-----------3--3/4----------|
|E|---------------------------|
|
| Guitar 1: From (4:27-5:17) moves to a chord pattern based around the |previous section
I think, though Im not 100% sure, it goes like this:
|E|----------------------|
|B|----------------------| You should be able
|G|--11--11--11--11--11--| to figure the
|D|--11--11--11--11--11--| x12 strumming out easy
|A|--9---8---xx--xx--xx--| enough.
|E|----------11--8-/-9---|
|
| Guitar 2 (4:43-5:00)
|E|-------------------------------------------------------|
|B|----------------------------------------------9------9-|
|G|--10/11/10--8/10/8--6--(x3)- folllowed by---6---6------|
|D|-------------------------------------------------------| x2
|A|-------------------------------------------------------|
|E|-------------------------------------------------------|
|
|Then Guitar 2 tremelo picks these notes from (5:00-5:17)
|E|------------|
|B|--------9---|
|G|---10-------|
|D|------------| x2
|A|------------|
|E|------------|
|
|Then let the last notes of Guitars 1 and 2 ring
|
|--------------------------------------------------------------------------|

|--------------------------------------------------------------------------|
|'CHORUS 2' (5:33-7:12)
|
|Guitar 1: (5:33-5:50) Distortion back on! Simple continuous chord strumming...
|
|E|------|
|B|------|
|G|------|
|D|--11--| x32
|A|--11--|
|E|--9---|
|
| ...Whilst Guitar 2 (5:33-5:50) also with distortion, tremelo picks this:
|
|E|---------|
|B|--9---6--|
|G|---------|
|D|---------| x2
|A|---------|
|E|---------|
|
| Guitar 1 (5:50-6:22) then starts this cool little solo type thing:
|E|--13b---------16--14-14--|
|B|------14--16-------------|
|G|-------------------------|
|D|-------------------------| x8
|A|-------------------------|
|E|-------------------------|
|
|
| ...Whilst Guitar 2 (5:50-6:22) plays this - you can figure out how many |times to pick
notes
|E|-----------------------------------|
|B|------9-------------------------9--|
|G|--10--------------------10--11-----|
|D|---------11-- x3 then -------------|
|A|-----------------------------------|
|E|-----------------------------------|
|
| Now we get back to familiar territory - the rest of the song is built of |previous
but I'll tab it out just to make sure...
|
| Guitar 1 (6:22-6:37) Plays this first....
|E|------------------------------------------|
|B|----------------9--7----------------9--7--|
|G|--8/10--8/10--6---------8--8/10---6-------|
|D|------------------------------------------| x1
|A|------------------------------------------|
|E|------------------------------------------|
|
|... Then finishes the song (6:37-7:12) by playing:
|E|--9---------------------9--------9---------------------|
|B|------7----6----------------6--------6---6/7-----------|
|G|----------------6--------------------------------------|
|D|-------------------------------------------------------| x2
|A|-------------------------------------------------------|
|E|-------------------------------------------------------|
|
|...Followed by this to end on...
|E|--9----------------|
|B|------7----6-------|
|G|----------------6--|
|D|-------------------|
|A|-------------------|
|E|-------------------|
|
| All Guitar 2 is doing from (6:22-7:12) is tremelo picking:
|E|--------------|
|B|---9----9-----|
|G|--10----11----|
|D|--------------|
|A|--------------|
|E|--------------|
|
|--------------------------------------------------------------------------|

And thats it!

This tab looks very daunting at first, but I hope the bracketing has made it easier to
- cutting a song like this into chunks is the best way to learn it. Its main difficulty
noticing the very subtle changes to the repetitions throughout the song. But anyway,
took a fair bit of time to do so I hope it was worth it - please leave comments and
and dont forget to rate!
