Here's a nice way to play that solo if you are playing solo acoustic..
at the *'s, switch the rest of your fingers to the corresponding open
chord - so you are playing the lead over the chords in the background.
To accentuate the switch, you can even do a quick light rake over the
chord from the bass strings at these points, making the last string
played the one with the lead on it. It's hard to explain. But during
the "rest" section (between repeats, etc.), I like to keep the open D
string going.

  D C G D
  *                             *      * P-O  *
E-(2)-------------------------------------3-0------|
B-(3)-----3--3-3-3---------------1--1-1--------2---|
G-(2)---2----------2-2-2->-4->-2-------------------|
D--0~(Let ring throughout)-------------------------|
A--------------------------------------------------|
E--------------------------------------------------|

[ Repeat once ]

  G C D
  *         *                *
                  H-OP-O
E----3---2---0-------------------------------------|
B--0------------1---1-3-1-----3--------------------|
G--------------------------2-----------------------|
D--0~(Let ring throughout)-------------------------|
A--------------------------------------------------|
E--------------------------------------------------|

For this part, obviously repeat the individual parts as many is
necessary (I'm not going to write the same fingering six times.. listen
to a recording to hear how it should be played)

E--5-5-5--3--5--------10-10-10--8-10----|
B--7-7-7--5--7---------7--7--7--5--7----|
G--7-7-7--5--7---------7--7--7--5--7----|
D--7-7-7--5--7---------7--7--7--5--7----|
A---------------------------------------|
E---------------------------------------|

               [ repeat ]
E-8-8-8--10-------------------------------|
B-8-8-8--10-------------------------------|
G-9-9-9--11-------------------------------|
D-0~~(Let Ring)~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A-----------------------------------------|
E-----------------------------------------|

You can even use your ring finger during that last formation (d chord)
to hammer on the B and E notes on the 12th fret of the 5/6th strings -
sounds a lot like the way Trey played it occasionally on Solo Tour

Full Lyrics

I had a dog. His name was Jim
(Runaway, runaway, runaway)
Took all of my old clothes with him.
(Runaway, runaway, runaway)

Whoa-ooooooooooooooo oh Runaway Jim
Whoa-ooooooooooooooo oh Runaway Jim

He was twelve years old when his trip began,
(Runaway, runaway, runaway)
Hauling down the highway in my old sedan.
(Runaway, runaway, runaway.)

Now I wish someone'd tell me where old Jim went,
(Runaway, runaway, runaway)
'Cause he took all the money that I saved for rent.
(Runaway, runaway, runaway)

By the time he came home he was seventeen.
(Runaway, runaway, runaway)
That's a hundred nineteen to you and me.
(Runaway, runaway, runaway)

Now I'm gonna go up to the mountain.
(Runaway, runaway, runaway)
Singing for Jim who's swimming in the fountain.
(Runaway, runaway, runaway)
