How to play "Let Her Go" on guitar

Intro: The intro is quite delicate and uses a lot of fingerpicking, this sets
the tone for the entire song. Keep an eye on clarity, between the notes,
and try to be as even as possible with your dynamic. Most of the emotional
content comes from hammer-ons and pull-offs, so take them slow at first.

Start with the G chord. Use your thumb for the bass (low E and A) and index
and middle fingers for the G and B strings. Use the pull-off on the B string
from 3p1 to get things really legato. Slide into the F chord without a strange
shift and keep the same fingerpicking pattern. Also listen for the hammer-on
from 0h2 on the G string. Going back to the G chord, you should make sure
your fingers are close to the string so you don't have any fuzziness when
transitioning.

Chorus: Here the chorus switches to strumming and deals with rhythm and
dynamics. Strum down for the first beat of each chord change to stress
the meaning of the lyrics. Then use a typical down-up strumming pattern
for the F and C chords; make sure you stress the downstrokes on those to
bring out the introspective feel of the song. The G chord wants to have a
slightly lighter feel so as to allow there to be the natural ebb and flow within
the rhythm. Be sure to look ahead at F, C, and G transitions, making them
smooth in relation to the vocal melody.

Verse 1 & Verse 2: Return to fingerpicking in the verses. This part is about
bringing forth the emotional depth of the song—use dynamics in a very
subtle way. Keep the fingerpicking pattern consistent with the introduction,
and make sure that the volume stays equal throughout. The change of chords
between Am, F, G, and Em should feel fluid. Keep your fingers close to the
strings for fast and smooth transitions. The bass notes (root notes of the chords)
should come out clearly and give a good foundation for the melody.

Bridge: The bridge keeps a similar vibe to the chorus but gets more introspective.
Strum lightly on the Am, F, and G chords, keeping a soft rhythm going.
Going back into the fingerpicked sections should be in a legato style: let the
chords sound out and ring before you change to the next chord.

Common Mistakes: Playing the Fingerpicking Too Fast: The fingerpicking
sections will slow you down. Start slowly to ensure that each note played is
clear and articulated. Uneven strumming: In the chorus, there are dynamics
in strumming. If you accent too much on the upstroke, then your strumming
will sound uneven. Smooth transition: Try making the changes as smooth
as possible when transitioning from verse to chorus.
