       E                     F#
And we saw Cat Power singing hour after hour
      A
of a future that would never be.
      E                        F#
And I sank to the bottom for a summer and an autumn
          A
tryin' to figure out if it was me. (sometime they say, "which was me.")
        F#
And she pinned me down to the Lady Parade groove
B
waiting for the soul to stray.
F#
When I quieted down, I heard the sound.
B                       A           E           F#
And that's the greatest song I ever heard...........
A                                     E         F#       A
Yeah, that's the greatest song I ever heard..............

E F# A (With electric riff in between verses.)
E F# A

(Repeat for Verse 2 then continue.)

Now I saw Bob Dylan gone electric,
Feeling Pete Seeger with his axe in the crowd.
Maggie and the farm, never meant no harm.
But the heart started beating to loud.

And I caught a glimpse, of a feeling I had once,
But let it all slip away with the pain.
And I'm just playing, never stop playing.
Cause that's the greatest song [JUMP TO BRIDGE ENTRY] I ever heard, I ever heard, yeah.

Bridge Entry
------------

        G# (466544)        F# (244322)

  B (799877)       A (577655)     E (022100)    F# (244322)    A (577655)
That's the greatest song I ever heard....................................

     E                   F#          A
Yea, that's the greatest song I ever heard.

                      E (hold)       -
That's the greatest song I ever heard.

Bridge to Ending

(Picking, then strumming, see notes)

The left hand is correct. Picking is mostly a pattern of the following strings using the chords below:
(1 = low E)
STRING PICKING ORDER EXAMPLE, NOT FRETS:
(Also, he occasionally uses strings 5 and 6 played open to augment string 1's bass)
But basically he's doing this sort of pattern. Watch the video linked at the top to see what I mean.
1+6, 3,4,5, 3+5, 2,4,5. (Thumb jumps between 1 and 3.)

(Honestly, as long as your left hand is correct, it'll sound good.)

Chord formation on acoustic for picking reference:
                     (Alternates for 8979)
E||---x----x----x----x-------------x----x----x----x---|
B||---x----x----x----x-------------x----x----x----x---|
G||---13---14---9----9-(11)-(9)----9----6----6----8---|
D||---9----10---6----7-(9)--(6)----6----4----4----4---|
A||---11---12---7----9-(7)--(7)----8----5----6----6---|
E||---12---11---9----8-(8)--(8)----7----6----5----7---|

For reference below and to clarify, I've given you some EXAMPLE pickings.
Honestly, as long as your left hand is correct, it'll sound good with pretty basic picking
walking up and down. Just pick the top two strings alternating as filler and play your low
string each quarter note (beat).
