(ver. 1)
Joy Division
(TAB inverted by John Mc Donagh)

them. I made some corrections as I thought some of them were wrong. The
guitar work was mostly done by (guitar hero) Bob Lagrasse and I did the bass
parts. If you disagree with anything or play anything differently, drop me
a line as I'd love to hear it. We based these tabs off of the studio albums,
we could make a whole other long text file on how they played with (Still and
variouse bootlegs). Also, Ian did change some of the lyrics on some of
the live performances. Hmm, did I leave out and excuses? :P
Tom Chess

------------
Joy Division
Ian Curtis : Vocals, guitar
Bernard Dicken: Guitar, synth, bass (I have no idea where or when he played
bass, but whenever they list the band he is credited with
                some bass work).
Peter Hook : Bass, vocals, guitar (Again, I have no idea where Peter
                played guitar.)
Stephen Morris: Drums

I've been waiting for a guide to come

Could these sensations make me feel
the pleasures of a normal man
New sensations bear the innocence -
leave them for another day
I've go the spirit, lose the feeling
take the shock away

back to bass1

It's getting faster, moving faster now,
it's getting out of hand
On the tenth floor, down the backstairs
into no-man's land
Lights are flashing,
cars are crashing,
getting frequent now
I've got the spirit, lose the feeling, let it out somehow

bass2: x2
bass3: x2
bass4:
back to bass1

What means to you,
what means to me -
and we will meet again
I'm watching you, I watch it all
I take no pity from friends
Who is right and who can tell,
and who gives a damn right now
Until the spirit, new sensation
takes hold - then you know (3)
I've got the spirit, but lose the feeling (2)
Feeling (7)

ending bass: (this is kinda weak, but it's as close as i got for now)

Insight
-------
this part is most likely played by a guitar, but i have transcribed it for
bass cuz when playing live P plays the part will Bernard is at the synth.
But I could never get my bass to sound like the Unknown Pleasure version,
but here's my best shot at it.

g-10-10-9-9-7--7-7--7--7-7- x2

g-8-8-7-7-5--5-5--5--5-5- x2

repeat till the bass 'solo'
g-11-12-12-12--11-12-12-12---11-12-12-12-12--10-10-11-11-12-12-12

Guess the dream always end
They don't rise up just descend
But I don't care anymore
I've lost the will to want more
I'm not afraid, not at all
I watch them all as they fall
But I remember, when we were young

Those with habits of waste
The sense of style and the taste
Of making sure you were right
Hey, don't you know you were right
I'm not afraid anymore
I keep my eyes on the door
But I remember...

Tears and sadness for you
More upevil for you
Reflects a moment in time
A special moment in time
Yeah, we wasted our time
We didn't really have time
But we remember - when we were young

And all God's angels beware
And all you judges beware
Sons of chance take good care
For all the people not there
I'm not afraid anymore (4)
bass solo till end:

New Dawn Fades
--------------
bass throughout the song:
d-2-222-22-2-2-222-0-000-00-0-0-000--------------------------------
a-----------------------------------3-333-33-3-3-333-0-000-0-0-000-

guitar part:
e scale blues progression

Change of speed, a change of style
A change of scene, with no regrets
A chance to watch
admire the distance
Still occupied - though you forget
Different colours, different shades
Over each mistakes were made
I took the blame
Directionless, so plain to see
A loaded gun won't set you free
So you say

We'll share a drink and step outside
An angry voice and one who cried
We'll give you everything and more
The strain's too much,
can't take much more
Oh I've walked on water,
run through fire
Can't seem to feel it anymore
It was me - waiting for me
Hoping for something more
Me - see me in this time -
Hoping for something else

ending:
g-55-33-2-2-2-2 repeat till end

She's Lost Control
------------------
bass:
g-10--10-10-10--10-10--9-10-9-7--7-7-7--8--8-8-8--8-8-7-8-7--5-5-5-5-

the bass bridge is
g-10--10-10-10--10-10-7--7-9--9-10-10-10-10-10-10--7-7-7-7-7-

the bass also follows the guitar part at some parts which is---
G A A# C D then G A A# C A

I could never get my bass to sound just like Pete's, but I'm pretty
sure the progression is right...

Confusion in her eyes that says it all -
She's lost control
And she's clinging to the nearest passer-by
She's lost control
And she gave away the secrets of her past
And said "I've lost control again."

And she turned to me
and took me by the hand
and said "I've lost control again"
and how I'll never know just why
or understand
She said "I've lost control again"
And she screamed out, kicking on her side
And seized up on the floor -
I thought she'd died
She said "I've lost control again"
She's lost control again -
she's lost control

Well I had to phone her friend
to state her case and say
she's lost control again
And she showed up all the errors
and mistakes
and said "I've lost control again"
But she expressed herself in many
different ways
until she'd control again
And walked upon the edge of no escape
and laughed "I've lost control again"
She's lost control again,
she's lost control (2)

Shadowplay
----------
bass:
a-3-3333333/5-----------
e-------------0-0000000-

guitar rythm:
c d e (like bass)

To the centre of the city where all roads
meet looking for you
To the depths of the ocean
where all hopes sank searching for you
Moving through the silence without motion
waiting for you
In a room with no window in the corner,
I found truth

bass changes:
1:
a--5-3-5-3-5-3----------
e--------------0--------
2:
a--5-5-3-3-1-1--------
e--------------0-0----

In the shadowplay, acting out your own death, knowing more
As the assassins all grouped in four lines,
Dancing on the floor,
And with cold steel, odour on their bodies,
made a move to connect
I could only stare in disbelief as the crowds all left

I did everything, everything I wanted to
I let them use you -
for their own ends
To the centre of the city in night
waiting for you (2)

Wilderness
----------
bass:
f# slide d then open e
then follows guitar notes
bass changes:
		    d-----------0---
a-----4------4-2- a-----4-------4- a-----4---------
e-2-2----2-2----- e-2-2---2-2----- e-2-2---2-2-0-0-

guitar chord:
D A# C
guitar solo:
e--------------------------------------------------------------
b--------------------------------------------------------------
g---57775775 57775775-7--0--7--0--7--5-7--5-7--0-7--0-7--5-7--5
d----------------------8-----8-----8----8----8----8----8----8--
a--------------------------------------------------------------
e--------------------------------------------------------------

Then back into the ol' D A# C progression - much easier than it appears
in the tab, trust me.

I traveled far and wide through many
different times
What did you see there?
I saw the saints and their toys
What did you see there?
I saw all knowledge destroyed
I traveled far and wide through many
different times

I traveled far and wide to prisons
of the cross
What did you see there?
The power and glory of sin
What did you see there?
The blood of Christ on their skins
I traveled far and wide through many
different times

I traveled far and wide where
unknown martyrs died
What did you see there?
I saw the one-sided trials
What did you see there?
I saw the tears as they cried
They had tears in their eyes!
Tears in their eyes! (3)

Interzone
---------
bass:
a-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-3-5-3-

Ok the chord progression is really very simple

A A A C D C A -

The solo, another basic blues progression derivitive

e-------------
b-5-----------
g--7-5-5------ x2
d-----7-7-7-7-
a--------7-7--
e-------------

I walked through city limits
Someone took me into by the blue
Attracted by some force within it
If I could close my eyes to get used to it
Around the corner where a puppet lay
Saw the place where she had a room to stay
A wire fence where children play
Saw them dance where the body lay
And I was looking for a friend of mine
I had no time to lose
Yeah, looking for some friends of mine.

bass
d------------3----------- in this part the guitar and bass are trading
a-0--0--0--35-5-0--0--0-- off playing A

The car screeched in the sand and dust
Feel encouraged - just a car on it's side
Metallic blue turned red with rust
Pulled it close by the buildin's side
In a room for forgotten youth
I could think or let my senses slide
Turned on to a night with you
Find the place where my friends, won't go
And I was looking for a friend of mine
I had no time to lose
Yeah looking for some friends of mine

bass:
play A throughout this softly

Down the dark street, | Through the dark house
the houses looked the same | all the faces looked the same
I walked round and round | Stopped and turned around,
you nailed me to a tree | held me to a game
Try to find a clue | Try to find a way
Try to find a way
To get out

For twelve windows stand in a row
Behind a wall where I looked out
The light shined like a neon show
See the deep fellow warning me
No place to stop, no place to go
No time to lose, have to keep on going
I guess they died some time ago
I guess they died some time ago
And I was looking for a friend of mine
And I have no time to lose
Yeah, I was looking for a friend of mine

same bass fill as before to end

Be clear every day, every evening bass2
It calls for alarm from above bass1
Carefully watched for a reason
Mistaking devotion and love
Surrendered to self-preservation
But life as it touches perfection
Appears just like anything else

Isolation (3) bass2

Mother, I tried, please believe me bass3
I'm doing the best that I can
I'm ashamed of the things I've been put through bass1
I'm ashamed of the person I am

These things I could never describe
Pleasures and wayward distractions
This is my wonderful prize

Colony
------
bass
a-0-3-5-0-3-5-0-3-5-3-5-5-

A cry for help, a hint of anaesthesia
The sound from broken homes,
we used to meet always here
As he lays asleep she takes him in her arms
Some things I have to do
but I don't mean you harm

I wore a careless glance
and kissed her last goodbye
Hands in the bag she packed a tear
she tries to hide
Cruel wind that howls down
to our lunacy
And leaves him standing cold
here in this colony

I can't see why
all these confrontations
I can't see why
all these dislocations
No, family life just makes me feel
uneasy
Stood alone here in this colony
In this colony (4)
Yeah, God in his wisdom
took you by the hand,
God in his wisdom made you understand (4)
In this colony (4)

A Means to an End
- ----- -- -- ---
bass:
g---2---2---2---2---0---0---0---0------------------
a-0---0---0---0------------------------------------
e-----------------3---3---3---3---0---0---0---0----

A legacy, so far removed
One day will be improved
Eternal rights we left behind,
We were the better kind
You this day met free too,
I always looked to you (3)

We fought for good,
stood side by side
Our friendship never died
But stranger ways that froze on highs,
our vision touched the skies
Mortal list - the points to prove
I put my trust in you (3)

A house somewhere, on foreign soil
Where aching lovers called
Is this your goal, your final deeds
Where dogs and vultures eat?
Permitted still, I turned to go
I put my trust in you (4)
In you, in you, in you
Put my trust in you, in you

bass:

fill
e-0-3-5-6-8-6-5-3-
guitar chords follow bass line with G F# E
until th chorus comes. when the lyrics go "3 1 g"
the guitar goes EE GG F#F# FF {repeats through chorus}

3 - 5 - 0 - 1 - 2 - 5 - Go!
I was there in the backstage
when first light came around
I grew up like a changeling
to wait the first time around
I could see all the weakness --
I could pick all the faults
But I concede all the faith tests --
just a stick in your throat
3 - 1 - G (3)

Hung around in your soundtrack --
to mirror all that you've done
To find the right side of reason
to kill the three lies for one
I could see all the cold facts --
I could see through your eyes
All this don't make no contact
no matter how hard I try
3 - 1 - G (3)

I could still hear the footsteps --
I could see only walls
I say 'hey' for you mad traps --
hearing no at all
I could see contradiction --
I could give up the fight
Just to live in the past tense --
To make believe you were right!
3 - 1 - G (3)
3 - 5 - 0 - 1 - 2 - 5

Leaders of Men
------- -- ---
guitar chords are simple again with a basic g f regression when it
appears, change octaves (the same applies to the bass). Barre the first
f/g combo at fretts 3 and 1 respectively and the second set at 10 and 8.

Born from some mother's womb --
Just like any other room
Made a promise for a new life --
Made a victim out of your life
When your time's on the door --
And you trip to the floor
And you feel you can touch --
All the noise is too much
And the seeds that are sown --
Are no longer your own

Just a minor operation --
To force the final ultimatum
A thousand words are spoken loud
Reach that gun to fool the crowds

When you walk down the street and the
sound that's so sweet
And you wish you could hide --
Maybe go for a ride
To some picture arcade --
Where the future's not made

A nightmare situation --
Infiltrate imagination
Smacks of past holy wars --
Fight a war with broken laws

The leaders of men --
Born out of your frustration
The leaders of men --
Just a strange infatuation
The leaders of men --
Made a promise for a new life

No saviour for our sakes
To crush the enteties of hate
Self-induced manipulation
To crush all thoughts of mass-salvation

The rest of the fade in's and stuff, really the whole song, are comprised
of some highly sophisticated compression technology (actually he's just
muting the strings)

Feel it closing in, feel it closing in
A fear of whom I call,
hearing someone call
Feel it closing in, feel it closing in
Day in, day out (6)

Feel it closing in,
As patterns seem to form
I feel it cold and warm
As shadows start to fall
Feel it closing in, feel it closing in
Day in, day out (5)

I'd have the world to see just what
happens to my decorum
And then just fade away
I see you fade away, don't ever fade away
I need you here today
Don't ever fade away (4)
Fade away (7)

Radio -- live transmission -- radio
live transmission

Listen to the silence, let it ring on
Eyes dark, relentless, frightened of the sun
We would have a fine time living in the night
Left a blind destruction,
Waiting for our sign

We would go on as though nothing was wrong
Hide from these days to remain all alone
Staying in the same place,
just staring at the tide
Touching from a distance, further all the time

Dance, dance, dance, dance,
dance to the radio (4)

Well I could call out
when the going gets tough
The things we've learned
are no longer enough
No language, just sound
is all we need know
To synchronise love to the beat
of the show
And we could dance -- dance, dance,
dance, dance, to the radio (4)

Love Will Tear Us Apart
---- ---- ---- -- -----
bass:
starts at:
g-7-
d-0- repeated till melody

melody
g-7-77-777-9-10-99-4-44444-22222222
live version end with the bass and keyboards playing:
g---0---0---
d-7---7----- till end

Holy almost having no input in this song whatsoever
there's only one small section with any guitar in it but
just in case you're wondering, it's a simple D chord.

When the routine bites hard
and ambitions are low
And the resentment rides high
but emotions won't grow
And we're changing our ways,
taking different roads
Then love, love will tear us apart
again (4)

Why is the bedroom so cold
Turned away on your side?
Is my timing that flawed,
our respect run so dry?
Yet there's still this appeal
That we've kept through our lives
Love, love will tear us apart again (4)

Do you cry out in your sleep
All my failings expose?
Get a taste in my mouth
As desperation takes hold
Is it something so good
Just can't function no more?
When love, love will tear us apart
again (4)

So long sitting here --
Didn't here the warning
Waiting for the tape to run
We've been moving round in different situations
Knowing that the time would come
Just to see you torn apart --
witness to your empty heart
I need it (3)

----Here's the progression that goes on durring the upcomming speach----
    A# C C# A# C C# D# C C# A#
----After the speech it goes back to the A# G# A# progression----

Through the wire screen
the eyes of those standing outside
looked in at her
as if into the cage
of some rare creature in a zoo.
In the hand of one of the assistants she saw
the same instrument which they had that morning
inserted deep into her body.
She shuddered instinctively.
No life at all in the House of Dolls.
No love lost (3)

You've been seeing things
Without the point of learning
Hoping that the truth will pass
No life underground
Wasting, never changing
Wishing that this thing won't last
To never see you show your age
To watch you to the feeling fades
I need it

--------
Well, that's all we have cranked out for now. Like I said, if
ya' find anything blatantly wrong or you play it a lil different
and it sounds good I'd love to hear about it.

Hope you have as much fun with this as we did.
