Duran Duran
Duran Duran - Falling Down (2007)

Tuning: Standard

Here is the first single off the band's album Red Carpet Massacre. For the most part,
Brown plays a little bit of lead work during the verses and some of the choruses. I

The intro and verses have Brown playing a very Chili Peppers-esque riff before and
the verses. It looks complicated at first, but becomes easier with a bit of practice.
to
you, this is not is one-hundred percent perfect, mostly because the album version seems
sound a lot different than the live version. It doesn’t sound quite like the album
but it’s a lot closer to how Brown has played it live both in concert and acoustically
my opinion. Either way, try to use your ear and this as a guide to get an idea for the
itself.

e----------------------------------4(h)7--4--------x--x---7/9—9\7--------------------|
b-------------4(h)5(p)4--4--5----------------------x--x---7/9—9\7--------9(h)12---9--|
g-----------6--------------------------------------x--x------------------------------|
d---------6----------------------------------------x--x------------------------------|
a------4-------------------------------------------x--x-------------------6\9--------|
E--------------------------------------------4/7-------------------------------------|

Brown continues to play this riff during the verses, but you can also play a few simple
during this part as well. Below are the chords used by keyboardist Nick Rhodes appears
play during the verses.

C#5 G#5 F#5
e|------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|------------------------------------------------------------------------|
G|--6----6----------------------------------------------------------------|
D|--6----6---6----4-------------------------------------------------------|
A|--4----4---6----4-------------------------------------------------------|
E|-----------4----2-------------------------------------------------------|

Here are the chords used for the pre-chorus, where Simon Le Bon sings the "Why has the
turned grey" part of the song. Only use the B5 and A5 chords quickly just before the
when Le Bon is singing the "know that it’s over" part.

    E G# C#min E G# C#min B5 A5
e|--0-----4-----4-------0-----4-----4--------------------------------------|
B|--0-----4-----5-------0-----4-----5--------------------------------------|
G|--1-----5-----6-------1-----5-----6------4----2--------------------------|
D|--2-----6-----6-------2-----6-----6------4----2--------------------------|
A|--2-----6-----4-------2-----6-----4------2----0--------------------------|
E|--0-----4-------------0-----4--------------------------------------------|

Now here’s the main guitar line for the song that Dom Brown plays during the choruses
outro. You can’t hear it as well on the album version, but he seems to be playing the
few notes of the solo in an up-and-down motion each time he goes through it. It just
itself over and over, so play around with it a bit and you should be able to get the hang
the riff by just listening to the track. It’s pretty simple to learn.

e|--19--19--16--16--19--19--16--16----------19--19--18--18--16--14---------|
B|----------------------------------16--16---------------------------------|
G|-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
D|-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
A|-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E|-------------------------------------------------------------------------|

And just in case, here it is lower on the fretboard if you’re playing this song on an
guitar.

e|--7--7--4--4--7--7--4--4--------7--7--6--6--4--2------------------------|
B|--------------------------4--4------------------------------------------|
G|------------------------------------------------------------------------|
D|------------------------------------------------------------------------|
A|------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E|------------------------------------------------------------------------|

Below are the chords you can play during the chorus if you just want to strum them on
guitar instead.

   C#m B A

e|--4----7----5-----------------------------------|
B|--5----7----5-----------------------------------|
G|--6----8----6-----------------------------------|
D|--6----9----7-----------------------------------|
A|--4----9----7-----------------------------------|
E|-------7----5-----------------------------------|

Below are the lyrics for Falling Down as well.

Once was a man who consumed his place and time
He thought nothing could touch him
But here and now it's a different story-line
Like the straws he is clutching

Why has the sky turned grey?
Hard to my face and cold on my shoulder
And why has my life gone astray?
Scarred by disgrace I know that it’s over

Because I'm falling down
With people standing round
But before I hit the ground
Is there time could I find
Someone out there to help me?

Howl at the wind rushing past my lonely head
Caught in silent slow-motion
How I wish it was somebody else instead
Howling at all this corrosion

Why did the luck run dry?
Laugh in my face so pleased to desert me
Why do the cruel barbs fly?
Now when disgrace can no longer hurt me

Because I'm falling down
With people standing round
But before I hit the ground
Is there time could I find
Someone out there to help me?

You see I'm falling down
With people standing round
But before I hit the ground
Is there time could I find
Someone out there to help me?

Because I'm falling down
With people standing round
But before I hit the ground
Is there time could I find
Someone out there to help me?

You see I'm falling down
With people standing round
But before I hit the ground
Is there time could I find
Someone out there to help me?

I don’t know… where to go
I don’t know… here I go
