His creed was Jewish
Her denomination Muslim
There was no way they could get along
Wrong
They met in Jerusalem
200 armed men on each side of them
Yet they created peace among themselves
And everyone else

It happened by fluke
They each lost a brother and their mother
To the soldiers that were surrounding them
No commiseration on the soldiers solemn faces
No look of apology or even empathy
On their emotionless faces
As they went and put the rest of the brave community in their places.

Before they were done their families were gone
Many were the only ones who could tell what had gone wrong
They did it with no hesitation or delay
What they did brought dismay to the faces of the citizens around them
Some were young, some were old, some unprotected, and some respected
But now they had one thing in common, an inseparable bond among themselves for generations to come
For they had all lived through this morning of misery, agony, and despair,
This day of gloom, grief and woe,
And this evening of torment, torture, and throe

Yet they had all lived another day
Just one, because tomorrow it would all start over again
With hundreds more dead and hundreds less to tell the story the next day

This is what it means to be grateful to alive
When you don’t know what tomorrow will bring
Yet they live on
Trying to make the best out of their bleak, hopeless situation

But the young couple comes and gets along and brings peace to themselves and everyone around them.
The children and men that are united in fighting
Drop their weapons and rejoice because
