(ver. 1)

Let me know what you guys think! Also, I have a little lyrics' br>dispute between my brother...
According to the CD lyrics the br>chorus says 'and they dammed the river' but on the recording it
sounds like 'and they downed the river'. What ever you prefer.Anybody wanna rate it?

(Verse 1)
          B E
Well they finally put that red light up in the heart of town
         B E
Took the stop sign down, it was shot up anyhow
    B E
One night I ran right through it in my Chevrolet
     B E
Both police cars came, but I got away

(Chorus 1)
         F# E
It was a boomtown back in'62, 'til the coal ran out
                                     B
And a drought came through, and they dammed the river
                    F# E
That we all used to fish
F# E
Population 405 and I made it 404 one night
             B F#
And left the city limit sign layin' in the ditch
(no chord) (Chorus walk) (B-E walk)
Run plumb over it, leavin' Metropolis

(Verse 2)
        B E
Well, I found myself in a big high-rise with a concrete yard
              B E
It ain't safe after dark, guess this ol' boy drove too far
      B E
Met a girl, fell in love, got married and she's due in May
                 B E
Says we're gonna need more space, I said I know just the place

(Bridge)
             E
Where we can walk down to the country store
       B F#
And we won't even have to lock our door
       E B F# E
We can still get air and water there for free
                      F# E
She said that sounds good to me

(Chorus 2)
         F# E
It was a boomtown back in'62, 'til the coal ran out
                                     B
And a drought came through, and they dammed the river
                    F# E
That we all used to fish
F# E
Population 404 and when we pull in it'll be 3 more
              B F#
And there's a city limit sign layin' in the ditch
(no chord) (Chorus Walk) (B-E walk)
That I need to fix, back in Metropolis
                    (B-A walk)
I'm almost in Metropolis
(no chord)
And I'm back in Metropolis
