Pretty Girl From Michigan Ukulele

(ver. 1)
The Avett Brothers
            C Em
Can you not see what you've done?
    F G
You gave your heart away like that.
         C Em
I didn't want to fall in love,
     F G
with anyone but you, dear.
            C Em
I can still hear the song,
     F G
the melody behind the kiss,
    C Em
you gave me, you were wrong,
      F G
I was right so I walked away,
             C Em
and left you there, alone,
   F G
I got so tired of talking on the
C Em
telephone,
    F G
how many times would we say the words, "Good bye?"

RIFF*
       C Em
I made mistakes, and one,
     F G
was telling you that I'd be there when
C Em
telling time (?) had come,
  F G
I should have said I didn't care.
        C Em
All the time I would have saved,
   F G
If I had been less willing
     C Em
to accommodate,
      F G
you'd been a little less likely to cry.

RIFF*

Am G
You go back to the high life,
    Am G
and I'll go back to the low.
F
I should have known,
G
But now I know.
               C Em
There'll be no word from you,
   F G
describing how it felt to go through
C Em
what I put you through
    F G
It all makes perfect sense
            C Em
the way you cut the rope
     F G
that kept you dangling from such
     C Em
pitiful amounts of hope,
F G
I would have cut it, too.

RIFF

I'm not much of a tab reader, I go by chords and embellish off of them. Hold the C chord
down, then pluck the A string (third fret) twice, followed by the D (second fret) once,
then the open G string, then G string, second fret (with your middle finger). Then do
the same thing in reverse, adding an optional pull-of on the D string.

End on C.
