Uncle Harveys Plane Chords

(ver. 1)
Roger Miller
D G
Me and Oliver and Virgil is-at the drug store killin time
        A D
when my eyes fell upon this magazine
                                 G
I started readin this article on skydiving and parachutes
              A D
and they said jumpin out of airplanes was the thing

                                           G
Now being raised down on a farm and always lookin for adventure
  A D
I knew that we could figure out a way
                                          G
Delmer Gill has got a parachute and uncle Harvey’s got an airplane
          A D
so I said call the boys together today's the day

     A D
Well I found out too late what uncle Harvey called an airplane
      E7 A
Wasnt nuthin but an engine and a wing
            D G
and I could feel my fear a-risen as Delmer packed the parachute
              A D
cause he kept tellin me ayes doin the right thing

                                    G
Ron McLaughlin shook my hand as JD strapped me in the harness
    A D
and Tilden brought a jug and passed it around
                                        G
I took one look at that parachute, that whiskey and that airplane
      A D
and I turned that bottle up and drank it down.

                                               G
Well I was drunker than Cooter Jones when they poured me in the plane
    A D
the engine coughed and sputtered towards the clouds
                                    G
Well I was sober as a judge when he opened up that door
  A D
I never knew my heart to beat that loud

       A D
I said HARVEY I CANT DO IT as he pushed my out the door
      E7 A
and I wrapped my hands around the landing gear
          D G
and I was holdin on real good till Harvey stepped down on my fingers
       A D
Virgil said he heard me scream from way up there!

                                               G
Well I thanked God and Delmer Gilles when that parachute finally opened
       A D
I said hell, there aint no use in bein afraid
                                                    G
and I went crashin through the hen-house scattering chickens and breakin eggs
      A D
and I kissed the ground and fainted dead away.
