Song: Gallery Piece (bass tab)

This is for y'all at the Townhall.

------------------------------------------

I don't know how many of you realise how genius this song is. It may sound
repetitive, but upon closer inspection, the instrumentation is pretty damn
complex. I've counted at least two basses and four guitars, plus the
keyboards, voices (and harmonies) and drums. Kevin barnes is a music god.

So here are both basslines of the song, for starters. Let's see how things
turn out.

-------------------------------------------

Standard tuning

/ = Slide up
\ = Slide down
~ = Let ring
_________________________________________
Part I

The first bass kicks in right as the song starts, the second when Kevin
gives that funny shriek a bit after the beginning.

Bass 1

G|---------8--------------------------------------------|
D|---8-10----11-10----8-10------8-10----8-10------------|
A|--------------------------11----------------11-10-8---|
E|------------------------------------------------------|

Bass 2

G|--10-10--8--8-------------8--10--10--8--9----|
D|----------------6--6--5----------------------|
A|-8--8---6--6------------6--8---8---6--7------|
E|---------------4--4--3-----------------------|

Bass 1 stops when Kevin starts singing and comes in again when he stops and
until the 1:24 minute mark. Bass 2 plays from the beginning when all the
instruments kick in and until the 1:24 mark, where part II begins.

Part II

This part was really hard to figure out, sometimes I heard notes that just
weren't there on some live versions, or flat out imagined some notes, so
this is just the main idea of how the song goes for both basses.

Bass 1

G|--------------------------------------------------------------|
D|-11---11---11---11---11---11---11---11---15----15---15----15--|

A|----------------------------------------------------------------------|
E|---(11)-------(11)-------(11)-------(11)------------------------------|

The notes between brackets are notes that I seem to hear, but are either
very unclear or in my head. You can play them or play mute tontes instead.
Listen to the song and play what seems convenient to you.

Bass 2

The second bass only appears during a chord change, and almost always plays
at the same time that thee keyboards do, so listen to the song to know when
the actual changes are. I am not so sure about these notes to, so listen to
the song and see if you hear different notes than the ones noted here.

Part II ends at 2:16. From then on, part I is played until the end, with
Bass 1 sometimes playing random melodies.
