Lifehouse - You and Me

09-03-07 Edit - Ok, I've gotten well over a 50 requests for strumming pattern. The fact is
there is no "right way" to strum a song as long as you hit the note changes correctly and
you stay on beat. But if you really want a description of how to make it work for this

1.) Begin with a solid strike on the bass notes with a down strum (you should only be striking
the top 3-4 strings, meaning EADG)

2.) Proceed to do a light to medium strength "down...up...down...up" strum on the lower
four treble strings (DGBE). You want to avoid hitting the bass notes because you should only
be hearing the bass notes on chord changes. Note that this "down up down up" strum is a
guideline to help you stay on count and on beat with the song. You can just as easily
do a "up...down...up" or even just an "up...up". Whats important is that you get the note
changes and stress the bass note with that initial strike.

This strumming pattern is generally consistent throughout the song. There are parts in the
chorus where you'll be holding the C2 chord longer than the other chords, but just try
to stay on beat with the bass note changes. I urge you to change it up and not stick to the
"down up down up" pattern or else you and the people listening will be very bored. Try some dramatic
pauses and double strums. It's a simple song so you can afford to experiment with technique
and style to change it up. Cheers.

TABS

*NOTE: This tab is not EXACTLY the way Jason plays it. For example, Jason actually
plays a C2 which is 032033, but I tabbed out a X3X033. I do this for style reasons.
Jason uses a Gibson Dove guitar (and sometimes a Gibson Hummingbird) which is a $4000+
guitar, and for the most part, the general public does not use guitars of that caliber.
To get the note distinction that you hear on the CD, you get better tone definition when
you drown out the bass notes and stress the actual note changes.

To play a "G", use your middle finger on the bass E string while gently touching the A
string just enough that it doesn't ring. Your Ring and Pinky fingers should be on the
treble B and E strings respectively.

To play a "C2", use your middle finger to press down on the A string while lightly
touching the D string so it doesn't ring. Then use your thumb to mute the bass E
string. Again, your Ring and Pinky fingers should be used on the treble B and E
strings.

To play G/F#, use your index finger on the bass E string and gently touch the A string
so it doesn't ring.

To play G/B, use your index finger on the A string. If you want to, use your thumb to
mute the bass E note, however it should still sound okay even if its not muted.

*NOTE: Jason doesn't actually do the Em7 bass riff, the bassist does it, but its fun to
