I (C) never made it as a (G7) writer,
But making songs with my banjo,(C) instead
None of the fiction found a  (G7) publisher
But now, my true stories can be (C) said

Composing songs and little verses
Created from the life I have led
Singing all of those blessed occurances
Still seem to flow from this old head

Never meant to be a Steinbeck, or a Faulkner
Though I have many manuscr i pts on the rejection pile
The Main Editor was being my protector
And was guiding me all the while.

So now I ponder, with hopeful vision
And hope the record will show
His guidance lead me to this mission
To sing these stories for everyone to know
