Banjo Tuned to E, Key of D, 5th string to B

  D A
I have just lost my whistle
                               D
Had it for more than sixty-five years
                         A
My front teeth have come out
                             D
And it nearly brought me to tears

I was taught that whistle by my grandpa
Pucker up, curl your tounge and blow thru your teeth
But when I try to do it now
Theres not a sound, you see

I had used that whistle since my youth
To call the dog or to scare off the geese
Now I cannot do it without my teeth
Yes, my attention getter has ceased

Always whistled in the kids at supper time
Or to get their attention, really quick
Their signal to get back home
Without missing a lick

Its almost as bad as losing my soul
Akin to not getting on Noah's Ark
Yeah, that sixty-five year old whistle broke
It surely was my trademark

Now I can whistle no more
And I can let it get me down
Or grab the bull by the horns
And go to the dentist when in town

It is one more page to turn
In lifes book of events
Memories I have had, that are fading now
As I learn to deal with the joys of old age
