Samuel(D) Garrison, he (G)was at Valley (D)Forge
Enlisted in Albemarle County April (A) 1776
Yep, (D) he was an army(G) private with famous (D) George
9th Regiment, Virginia Lightfoot (A) Infantry (D) Line

I found him in Capt William (G)Henderson's Company muster (D) rolls
Virginia born in seventeen (A) fourty-nine
So (D) he was 27 when(G) he pledged his (D) soul
When he joined the Virginia(A) Continental(D) Line

He (G) fought Battle of Monmouth, and Germantown (D) too
Moving quickly before the enemy could get (A) set
I can(D) see him, hunting (G)jacket and leggings (D) too
Because, those brave soldiers (A) had no uniforms(D) yet

Many used their own muskets or rifles,
Their canteens where painted oak wood
Fighting together ignoring all trifles
Taking on the British, best they could

First three years plus, then for the duration
Grandpa Sam did his part to create this great Nation
My hat is "off to him," as they say
I have it all recorded here
For my grandchildren to read someday
A legacy, I hope they will hold dear

He (G) died in Scott County (D) Kentucky
In the year of (A)1799
Grandpa (D) Sam,(G) What a (D)Man!
He fought in 9th Regiment (A)Virgina Continental (D) Line
