Up Up And Away Tabs

(ver. 1)
Kid Cudi

Tuning: standard (eadgbe)

and I have to say, I am greatly disappointed in my virtual guitar-playing friends, or lack
I really like the beat cause it's simple: acoustic guitar, bass, and piano, and not to
real drums which you don't hear too often in today's "rap" and "hip-hop". That's
I like Kid Cudi. On his whole album, not a single song is like the others, nor are they
they're all fresh and unique in their own way. I highly recommend "Man on the Moon: The
of Day". And no, I'm not getting paid to say that. I just really like the
and I wish there was more like it these days. Oh well.

I digress. Here's the tab. So easy, a caveman could play it. I don't see how all these
are so wrong, and that's the only reason I ever take the time to write out (type up?) a

Intro guitar riff:
e|--2---2-----0---0-----2---2-----3---2---0---|
B|--3---3-----3---3-----3---3-----3---3---3---|
G|-(2)-(2)---(2)-(2)---(2)-(2)---(2)-(2)-(2)--|
D|-(0)-(0)---(0)-(0)---(0)-(0)---(0)-(0)-(0)--|
A|--------------------------------------------|
E|--------------------------------------------|

e|--2---2---2----0----2---2-----2---2---0-----|
B|--3---3---3----3----3---3-----3---3---3-----|
G|-(2)-(2)-(2)--(2)--(2)-(2)---(2)-(2)-(2)----|
D|-(0)-(0)-(0)--(0)--(0)-(0)---(0)-(0)-(0)----|
A|--------------------------------------------|
E|--------------------------------------------|

Yes, it's essentially an alternation between a D (xx0232), Dsus2 (xx0230), and Dsus4
chord, except with just the top two strings being played. But you can play the full chord
you want; it'll still sound the same. This riff is looped throughout most of the song.

Chords for the whole song: A, Bm, D, G

A: x02220
Bm: x24432
D: xx0232
G: 320033

Or if you wanna get funky, you can keep the 2nd fret on the E string down while playing
the chords. The Bm and D chord have this note (F#) naturally but the A and G chord
So if you added it to them, it'd be something like this:

A13: x02222
Bm: x24432
D: xx0232
Gmaj7: 320032

The Gmaj7 is tricky because it requires either really flexible fingers, or more fingers
you have. So what I do is I don't play the A string. I mute it with my middle finger
playing the E string, and then use my freed up index finger to play the 2nd fret on the
string. So you're supposed to end up with a free pinky, and you can do whatever your heart
with it.

I'm not one to get all technical and type up the rhythm, although the rhythm for the
is pretty funky since a lot of the chords are played on the upbeat. So here's the verse &
lyrics with the chords. The rhythm is similar to "Viva La Vida" by Coldplay.

	      A
Now when the sun come up,

		 Bm
I'll be there to say what up in the morning

D
Brush my teeth,

	 	     G
Find that clip I've been lookin for since last night,

	   A
I feel so caught up, in a bud

Bm
I flow some round in my bedroom

D G
Turn around, see myself in the mirror

I guess I'm cool and

    A
No sappy thoughts in my head

Bm
I'm feeling like I'm Peter Pan

D
minus the tights in the first,

	  G
happy to see how far I've come to

     A Bm
the same place, think again, my dreams and imagination

 D G
perfectly at peace so I move along a bit higher

A
I'll be up up and away

Bm
Up up and away

       D G
Cause they gon' judge me anyway so whatever

A
I'll be up up and away

Bm
Up up and away

              D G
Cause in the end, they'll judge me anyway so whatever
--

And it's the same progression throughout the whole song. A, Bm, D, G

The guitar riff in the background of the chorus goes like this:
e|-----------------------------------------|
B|--5-7-7-7--5-7-8-7~----5-7-7-7--5-7-7----|
G|--------------------------------------4~-|
D|-----------------------------------------|
A|-----------------------------------------|
E|-----------------------------------------|
I know you can play the same notes with the E string and B string, but I like the fuller
of playing it higher on the neck.

There's also a little piano riff in the middle of the song. Here it is for the guitar:

e|----------0------2-2-2-------------------|
B|-2-2--2-3---3-3----------------3-0-0-0~--|
G|------------------------2-2-2------------|
D|-----------------------------------------|
A|-----------------------------------------|
E|-----------------------------------------|

And the bass part, which is just the root notes of the guitar chords:
G|-------------------------------------------------------|
D|-------------------------------------------------------|
A|--0--0--0--0-2--2--2-2--2---5--5--5--5-----------------|
E|---------------------------------------3--3--3-3--3----|
In the song, the bass actually sounds like it plays a lower D, which means that the bass
either tuned to Drop-D or is just in Standard D. So if you want to play it EXACTLY like
song, I'd probably just tune the bottom E down to a D and play the open D instead of the
on the 5th fret of the A string. Keep in mind that you'd also have to play the G up
frets from 3 to 5 since you tuned the string down.

Enjoy!
