So I just tabbed this from the chord pattern plus what I think sounds cool (but is still 
true to the chords)

INTRO: just keep strumming the open E on every beat (alternatively use any other octave 
of E)

I play the higher octave (on the G string) because I think it works better with the 
higher pitched singing

CHORUS:
I sometimes play this doing alternate octaves (i.e. playing the open E for the on beat, 
and the 2nd on D for the off beat) try it and make up your own mind

now this bit has quite a lot of leeway, you can either play the lower octave, a higher 
octave, or just not at all.
Whatever you end up doing, just play the root note of the following chords:

            A(open fret A string)     G#m (4th fret on E)
Picture the two of us alone inside my golden submarine
         A                  B7 (2nd fret on A)
While up above the waves my doomsday squad
  E         E7 (both these two are open E string)
ignites the atmosphere
            A
And all the fools who lead their foolish lives
    G#m             C#7 (4th fret A string)
may find it quite explosive
        F#m (2nd fret E)                 A                B7
Well it won't mean half as much to me if I don't have you here...

Then repeat VERSE and CHORUS and finish the chorus off by playing this three times:
