Death Cab For Cutie
Tabs
|
|
Tuning: Standard
I have been playing this song for a couple of years now, and it has finally stepped up to bat in comparison with the actual Death Cab version. This version contains measures of both acoustic guitars, though still sounds nice with only the one guitar (gtr. 1). But if you can team up with someone to play gtr. 2, then do it! The syncronization of the two makes way for a more intensly "crisp", "fuller" sound and a more harmonious flow, that will be sure to blow your mind! In order to get the best sound possible, its important to play both parts properly, hitting each and every note right on, with smooth, effortless chord changes in between.
*ALSO, if you're playing solo, try playing it on a 12-string...sounds nice! But don't play a 12-string with 2 guitars...too much noise! You want to be able to hear whats being played.
Gtr. 1 - INTRO/OUTRO e------10-------------10-------------7------------10---------- B-------8-------8------8-------8-----5-----5-------8-------8-- G------------------------------------------------------------- D------------------------------------------------------------- A--10------10-----10------10-----7-----7------10------10------ E-------------------------------------------------------------
e-----------3-----------3-----------3-----------3(x)-- B-----1-----1-----1-----1-----1-----1-----1-----1(0)-- G----------------------------------------------------- D----------------------------------------------------- A--3-----3-----3-----3-----3-----3-----3-----3-------- E-----------------------------------------------------
Gtr. 2 - INTRO/OUTRO e-----5-----------5-----------7------------10--------- B-----3-----3-----3-----3-----5-----5-------8------8-- G----------------------------------------------------- D----------------------------------------------------- A--5-----5-----5-----5-----7-----7-----10------10----- E-----------------------------------------------------
e-----3-----------3-----------3-----------3----------- B-----0-----1-----0-----1-----0-----1-----0-----1(0)-- G----------------------------------------------------- D----------------------------------------------------- A--3-----3-----3-----3-----3-----3-----3-----3-------- E-----------------------------------------------------
Gtr. 1 - VERSE It sounds nice if you fool around with these chords a little, by picking certain ones, creating a more "choppy" sound, instead of brushing every string on ever stroke. e--0-----10-----0------0-----0-----0-----0-------0---0---0------ B--3------0-----0------0-----0-----0-----3-------0---0---0------ G--0------0-----0------0-----0-----6-----0-----7---6---7---11/-- D--2/-----9-----9/----12/----5-----7-----2-----5---4---5----9/-- A--3/----10-----7/----10/----3-----7-----3---------------------- E--x------x-----x------x-----x-----5-----x----------------------
Gtr. 2 - VERSE Lay off the low E string for the second, third and fourth chords in the verse. Hit it lightly, but not on every stroke, or else you get way too much bass and it sounds akward. Use your own judgement though, if something sounds off you'll hear it. e--0-----3-----0-----3-----0-----0(3)--0-------3---3---3---3-- B--3-----3-----0-----3-----3-----0-----3-------3---3---3---3-- G--0-----0-----0-----0-----0-----2-----0---------------------- D--2-----0-----2-----0-----2-----2-----2---------------------- A--3-----x-----2-----x-----3-----0-----3-----------------2---- E--x-----3-----0-----3-----x-----x-----x-----3---2---3--------
Gtr. 1 - CHROUS e--0-----0-------------------------------------- B--0-----0-------5---5---3---3---0---0---------- G--0-----6-------0---0---0---0---0---0---0---0-- D--9-----7-------------------------------------- A--7-----7-----3---3---3---3---3---3---3---3---- E--0-----5--------------------------------------
**This is how gtr. 1 plays the last half of the last chorus, before breaking into the outro. Not much of a difference, but...meh! e--0-----0-------------------------------------- B--0-----0-------5---5---3---3---0---0---0---0-- G--0-----6-------0---0---0---0---0---0---0---0-- D--9-----7-------------------------------------- A--7-----7-----3---3---3---3---3---3---3---3---- E--0-----5-------------------------------------- "...that keeps me thrown askew"
Gtr. 2 - CHOURS If you're confused by this, dont be. You're just moving your pinky finger on the high e, back and forth from the 3rd fret to the 5th fret. Listen to the acoustic version and you'll hear it. e--0-----0-----3--5--3--5--3--5--3-- B--0-----0-----3--3--3--3--3--3--3-- G--0-----2-----0--0--0--0--0--0--0-- D--2-----2-----2--2--2--2--2--2--2-- A--2-----0-----3--3--3--3--3--3--3-- E--0-----x-----x--x--x--x--x--x--x--
BOTH GUITARS END ON Em.
*LYRICS*
I took the 405 and drilled a stake down into your center and stated that its never ever been better than this.
I hung my favourite shirt on the floor board, wrinkled up from pulling, pushing and tasting tasting
You keep twisting the truth that keeps me thrown askew
Misguided by the 405 'cause it led me to an alcoholic summer I missed the exit to your parents' house hours ago
Red wine and the cigarettes: hide your bad habits underneath the patio...
You keep twisting the truth that keeps me thrown askew
